INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set One (25-21)
The Jimmies put together five runs of at least three straight points on the way to a 19-11 lead in the opener. Lourdes took four in a row to get within 19-15, and after a UJ timeout, scored again to make it a three-point game. Jamestown maintained at least a three-point lead down the stretch and a Caylor Cox kill clinched the set for the Jimmies.
- Set Two (25-23)
Lourdes held a two-point edge for the beginning part of the set, but the Jimmies strung together three straight to lead 10-9. From there the teams traded points until Jamestown gradually opened up a two-point lead of its own. Caydann Cox's kill and a Lourdes attack error made it 20-18, and UJ led by no fewer than two until the Gray Wolves got within 24-23. Out of a Jimmie timeout, Lourdes looked to tie the score, but a service error gave Jamestown the winning point and a 2-0 match lead.
- Set Three (25-23)
The Jimmies and Gray Wolves battled through a close beginning of the third set, with neither team building a lead more of three points until UJ went up 15-11 after a kill by Caydann Cox. Trailing 19-14, Lourdes forced a Jamestown timeout after winning three in a row,but kept the Jimmies from putting the set away. UJ had a 23-20 edge late, only to see Lourdes reel off three straight to tie the set. A kill by Swiderski broke the stalemate, then Caylor Cox and Steckler combined for a block to win the match.
