Jimmies wrap up weekend whitewashing of Waldorf

ALBERT LEA, Minn.-- The No. 4 Jimmie men's ACHA Division 1 hockey team completed the season sweep of MCH conference rival Waldorf University, defeating the Warriors 7-0 on Friday and 6-0 on Saturday.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Jamestown 7, Waldorf 0 (Friday); Jamestown 6, Waldorf 0 (Saturday)

HOW IT HAPPENED--FRIDAY

  • Morgan Venne scored twice and five other players had goals as UJ won its third game of the season against Waldorf on Friday.
  • Greg Susinski got the Jimmies on the board just 45 seconds into the contest, then Kole Christensson doubled the Jamestown lead with his goal at 15:53 of the first.
  • UJ broke the game open with four goals in the second period. Carter Johnson picked up his tenth goal of the year at 1:11, then Venne tallied back-to-back goals at 2:20 and 15:53 to make it 5-0.
  • Keaton Cline's shorthanded goal at 16:29, his first of the year, made it 6-0 as the teams entered the third period.
  • Philippe Lessard had the final Jimmie goal at 3:00 of the third to round out the scoring.
  • Susinski, Cline, and Jordan Baranesky all recorded a pair of assists while Lessard, Brad Fortin, Reid Wilson, Zane MacDonald, and Jordon Kromm each assisted on another.
  • Brandon Weare stopped all 17 shots he faced in net.

HOW IT HAPPENED—SATURDAY

  • After winning the first three games of the season against the Warriors by a score of 7-0, Jamestown completed the season sweep with a 6-0 whitewash of Waldorf on Saturday.
  • Six different players lit the lamp as the Jimmies scored six or more goals in a game for the tenth time this season.
  • Brad Fortin's 18th of the season was the only scoring in the first period, coming at 12:40 on an assist by Griffin Bourassa.
  • Greg Susinski (11:36) and Carter Johnson (13:13) made it 3-0 Jamestown with goals in the second period. It was the fifth on the year for Susinski and 11th for Johnson.
  • Three power play goals in the third turned a 3-0 lead into a 6-0 final. Kole Christensson (8:12), Jordon Kromm (11:30), and Reid Wilson (12:28) accounted for the scoring, which helped the Jimmies finish 3-for-4 on the power play on the night.
  • UJ outshot Waldorf 47-13, including 19-3 in the third period.
  • Brandon Weare stopped 13 shots to record his 10th shutout of the season, which leads all ACHA goaltenders.
  • Morgan Venne, Jordan Baranesky, and Alek Erichuk each assisted on a pair of goals. Also credited with helpers on Saturday were Wilson and Brenden Vulcano.
