The seventh-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA Division 1 men's hockey team won its first game of the season with a 7-0 victory over Waldorf (Iowa) University Friday evening at John L. Wilson Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jamestown capitalized on its only power play opportunity of the first period, after Waldorf's Brandon McDonald was called for cross checking.
- Reid Wilson scored 16 seconds into the man advantage to give UJ a 1-0 lead at the 10:07 mark. Brenden Vulcano and Alek Erichuk got the assists.
- The Jimmies broke the game open in the second period with three goals, extending their lead to 4-0.
- Logan Berggren notched the second power play goal of the night, coming at 2:46 from Erichuk and Vulcano.
- Jordan Baranesky, from Morgan Venne and Greg Susinski, made it 3-0 at 12:36 before Zane MacDonald finished off the second-period scoring at 18:30 with assists by Venne and Baranesky.
- MacDonald lit the lamp 56 seconds into the third period with his second of the night, coming from Venne and Susinski on the power play.
- Jordon Kromm had back-to-back goals at 6:56 and 13:48, with Carter Johnson getting the helper on the first and Erichuk and Philippe Lessard setting up the second.
FOR THE JIMMIES
- UJ outshot Waldorf 60-14 and finished 3-for-4 on the power play.
- Venne and Erichuk each had three assists while Vulcano and Susinski added a pair.
- Brandon Weare had 14 saves to record the shutout.
