The seventh-ranked ACHA Division 1 Jimmie men's hockey team welcomed defending national champion and top-ranked Minot State University to John L. Wilson Arena Wednesday evening. The Beavers scored a goal in each period to defeat UJ 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• Minot State got on the board first as Joey Moffatt notched his second goal of the season at 11:09 of the first period with an assist by Logan Rands.
• Just under five minutes later, the Jimmies answered as Carter Johnson made it 1-1 with 4:10 remaining in the first period. Jordon Kromm and Philippe Lessard were credited with the assists.
• UJ had the lone power play chance in the first but were unable to take advantage.
• Walker Jerome's first of the season gave the Beavers a 2-1 lead at 8:52 of the second period.
• After being outshot 12-7 in the opening 20 minutes, the Jimmies only trailed MSU by one shot (11-10) in the second.
• Only one penalty was called in the second period, giving the Beavers a power play opportunity  they were unable to convert.
• Reid Wilson was called for tripping just 56 seconds into the third period, and Reece Henry scored at the 1:53 mark, extending Minot State's lead to 3-1.
• Third period shots were 11-9 in favor of the Beavers.

FOR THE JIMMIES

• Brandon Weare saved 31 of the 34 shots he faced in goal.
• UJ was 0-for-1 on the power play and killed off one of two penalties.
• Wyatt Johnson and Carter Johnson (no relation) made their Jimmie debuts.

FOR THE BEAVERS

• Ryan Monias, Trenton Curtis, Sheldin Howard, and Troy Hamilton had assists on the final two goals.
• Fourth-year goaltender Riley Wallace recorded his fourth career shutout and remained unbeaten in the regular season, improving his record to 35-0-1.
