HOW IT HAPPENED--GAME ONE
- The Jimmies and Wolves went back and forth over the first three-and-a-half innings in Friday's first game.
- An unearned run and RBI single by Ally Battistoni staked UJ to a 2-0 lead after one.
- NSU answered with two runs in the top of the second, but a bases-loaded walk to Abby Blair put Jamestown back in front 3-2 in the bottom half.
- Sydney Grendler hit a two-run single to left to give UJ a 5-2 advantage.
- The Wolves wasted little time in tying the game, scoring three runs in their next at-bat.
- NSU plated two more runs in the fourth, then added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES
- Battistoni went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the UJ offense.
- Five other Jimmies had a hit, including doubles by Samarah Martinez and Maddie Spaeth.
- Sunny Halsey took the loss for the Jimmies, giving up seven runs on nine hits over three innings.
- Hailey Schaefer worked the final four innings, allowing a run on six hits.
NORTHERN STATE GAME NOTES
- Kyra Knudtson was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles to lead the Wolves' 15-hit attack.
- Four other players had two hits, including Avarie Eagle and Elly Smith, who also doubled.
- Lexi Chase pitched the last five innings, holding the Jimmie scoreless to pick up the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED--GAME TWO
- Valley City State took a 5-0 lead before UJ got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third.
- Angie Chin doubled to start the third, then scored on a double by Samarah Martinez to make it 5-1.
- Three more runs in fourth and a pair in the fifth gave the Vikings a 10-1 lead as Jamestown came to bat in the bottom of the fifth.
- Gentrey Turin doubled home Martinez and Ally Battistoni, then stole third with one out.
- Maddie Spaeth brought in Turin with a sacrifice fly as the Jimmies got within 10-4.
- Camryn Schwab led off the bottom of the sixth with a pinch-hit home run, and Kylie Yanzuk scored Sonya Rodgers with a single in the bottom of the seventh.
- Jamestown had the the tying run on deck with two outs but the Vikings were able to end the threat.
JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES
- Martinez (3-for-4) and Chin (2-for-2) combined for five of UJ's nine hits.
- Abby Blair gave up eight runs on seven hits in three innings for the loss.
- Taryn Schurhamer pitched three hitless innings, pitching out of a bases-loaded and no outs situation in the top of the fifth.
VCSU GAME NOTES
- Four players had two hits each for the Vikings, including Alyssa DePoorter, who was 2-for-2 with 3 RBI.
- VCSU finished with 11 hits, including five doubles.
- Joelle Lamontagne improved to 3-0 despite allowing five runs and five walks in 5 1/3 innings.
