Box Score 2 SEWARD, Neb.-- The University of Jamestown softball team split a pair of one-run games Friday evening at Concordia (Neb.) University. The Bulldogs won 2-1 in the opener with the Jimmies taking game two by a score of 8-7.
The Jimmies are back in action Saturday afternoon at Midland (Neb.) University.
Jamestown took the first lead in game one, as Katie Reisdorfer (SR/Fresno, Calif.)'s fourth-inning single scored Santina Zito (JR/Boise, Idaho) to make it 1-0. Concordia came back in the bottom of the sixth on Julia Van Wey's two-out single that made it 1-1.
In the seventh, Skylar Thorpe (FR/Petaluma, Calif.) led off for the Jimmies with a single and stole second base to get into scoring position. Bulldog starter Camry Moore, who had pitched four-hit shutouts in her last two starts, retired the next three batters to keep Jamestown from taking the lead.
Concordia once again scored with two outs, this time the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Taylor Glause reached on a throwing error by Kat Miska (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.), then came around to score as the next batter, Aubrey Bruning, reached on an error by Reisdorfer.
Miska allowed one earned run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings, striking out four. Megan Neiles (SO/Winnipeg, MB) joined Reisdorfer and Thorpe with hits, and LaLa Romero (FR/Surprise, Ariz.) also had a stolen base.
After being held to only three hits in the opener, the Jimmie bats pounded out 14 hits in an 8-7 win to secure the split. LaLa Romero went 4-for-4 and Ally Battistoni (FR/Elizabeth, Colo.) 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Megan Neiles, Katie Reisdorfer, and Steph Cota (JR/Tucson, Ariz.) all had two hits for UJ.
Neiles and Gracie Fisher (SO/Bemidji, Minn.) each drove in runs as part of Jamestown's three-run first inning. Concordia scored once in the bottom of the first to make it 3-1, but UJ answered back with Romero's RBI single in the second.
The Bulldogs took the lead with a four-run third inning, but the lead was short-lived. Santina Zito reached on an error allowing Battistoni to score, then also came around with Romero on a two-run single by Reisdorfer.
Concordia made it 7-6 with a single run in the bottom of the fifth, only to have Jamestown answer with another run in the sixth, an RBI single by Neiles.
In the bottom of the seventh, Moore doubled with one out for Concordia, then moved to third on a wild pitch with two outs. Van Wey singled home Moore to make it 8-7, and Kat Miska finished off the save by striking out Kylie Shottenkirk.
Katie Merchant (JR/South Haven, Minn.) got the win despite allowing six runs on 10 hits over 4 2/3 innings. Maddy Zander (FR/Bismarck, N.D.) struck out two and walked one in 1/13 innings in relief of Merchant before giving way to Miska to start the seventh.
