JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team struggled to find its footing on Sunday, dropping a conference doubleheader to Concordia-St. Paul at the Nelson Family Bubble. Costly defensive miscues and early offensive surges by the Golden Bears proved to be the difference as the Jimmies moved to 19-12 overall and 0-8 in NSIC play.
Game 1: Concordia St. Paul 10, Jamestown 4
The opener saw the Jimmies hindered by seven defensive errors, allowing Concordia-St. Paul to claim a 10-4 victory. The Golden Bears jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and added five more unearned runs in the fifth. Jamestown showed life in the middle innings, highlighted by back-to-back triples from Lauren Weigel and Trinity Gregg in the fifth, but the early deficit was too large to overcome. Hope Ransome took the loss, surrendering five runs (three earned) in a brief starting appearance.
Game 2: Concordia St. Paul 8, Jamestown 3
In the nightcap, Concordia-St. Paul utilized two four-run frames to secure an 8-3 win. The Golden Bears took a quick 4-0 lead in the first, but the Jimmies responded immediately in the bottom half when Maddie Spaeth laced a two-run triple to right center. Jamestown pulled within one in the second inning after Amanda Burch singled and was driven home by a Weigel double. However, a two-RBI double by Alexis Monty in the third helped the Golden Bears pull away for good. Aubrey Quern suffered the loss, while Abby Blair provided 4.1 innings of scoreless relief to keep the Jimmies within striking distance.
