JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team snapped a difficult stretch to open conference play, securing its first two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) victories with a doubleheader sweep of Minnesota State Moorhead on Friday. Though played at the Nelson Family Bubble in Jamestown due to weather, the Dragons acted as the home team for both contests. The sweep pushes the Jimmies' overall record to 21-12 and moves them to 2-8 in NSIC action.
Game 1: Jamestown 6, Mnn. St. Moorehead 2
In the opener, Jamestown utilized a late-inning surge to secure a 6-2 victory. The game remained a tight 3-2 affair until the top of the seventh, when Madelyn Webb delivered an RBI single to score Maddie Spaeth. Katie Falk then provided the decisive blow, a two-out, two-RBI double to right-center that drove in Kate Geiszler and Kylie Yanzuk. Earlier in the contest, Katie Falk paced the offense with three RBIs. Hope Ransome earned her sixth win, tossing four innings of two-run ball, while Abby Blair provided three innings of scoreless relief to pick up her third save of the year.
Game 2: Jamestown 5, Mnn. St. Moorehead 1
The Jimmies' bats stayed hot in the nightcap as they cruised to a 5-1 win. Maddie Spaeth put UJ on the board immediately with a two-run single in the first inning. Jamestown added three more in the fourth, including an RBI single from Tori Olson, a sacrifice fly from Lauren Weigel, and a run-scoring single from Jorja Hainsworth. Trinity Gregg led the offense, going 3-for-4 while Spaeth contributed two RBIs. On the rubber, Aubrey Quern was dominant, pitching a complete-game three-hitter with three strikeouts to earn her seventh win.
