Jimmies trade blows in split with Golden Eagles

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team continued its conference home stand on Saturday, splitting a doubleheader against the University of Minnesota Crookston at the Nelson Family Bubble. The Golden Eagles served as the home team for both contests due to weather-related site changes. The split moves the Jimmies to 22-13 overall and 3-9 in NSIC play.

Game 1: Jamestown 6, Minn. Crookston 4
In the opening game, Jamestown's offense exploded for 14 hits in a 6-4 victory. The Jimmies jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Madelyn Webb and a sacrifice fly by Amanda Burch. After two single RBIs by Crookston's Valerie VanZant and Madisen Yandle to tied the game, Jamestown reclaimed the lead in the third with a three-run surge, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Burch and an RBI single by Katie Falk. Burch then added a crucial insurance RBI in the seventh to finish with a game-high four RBIs. Hope Ransome earned the win in relief, tossing 3.2 innings of one-run ball.

Game 2: Minn. Crookston 2, Jamestown 0
The evening game proved to be a defensive struggle, as the Jimmies were held scoreless in a 2-0 defeat. Jamestown managed four hits, including a double by Maddie Spaeth, but could not find the timely hit to erase a two-run fourth-inning deficit. Trinity Gregg was a bright spot on the basepaths, recording two stolen bases. Aubrey Quern took a hard-luck loss, striking out six and allowing only two runs in a complete-game effort.
