JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team traded outcomes with Northern State University Wolves on Tuesday, splitting a conference doubleheader at the Nelson Family Bubble. A dominant pitching performance defined the opener for the Jimmies, while a late-inning offensive surge by the Wolves proved too much to overcome in the nightcap. The split moves Jamestown to 23-14 overall and 4-10 in NSIC play.
Game 1: Jamestown 2, Northern St. 0
In the opening contest, Aubrey Quern turned in a masterclass in the circle, tossing a complete-game one-hitter to lead the Jimmies to a 2-0 victory. Jamestown took an early lead in the first inning when Maddie Spaeth singled to drive in Trinity Gregg, who had led off with a double. Madelyn Webb provided a crucial insurance run in the sixth with a solo home run. Quern finished the day with nine strikeouts, allowing only a single base hit in the second inning.
Game 2: Northern St. 9, Jamestown 2
The nightcap saw the Jimmies fall 9-2 as Northern State's bats ignited in the final three frames. Jamestown held a 2-1 lead heading into the fifth after a Jorja Hainsworth sacrifice fly, but a three-run home run by Northern St. Tevan Bryant sparked a four-run rally that put the Wolves ahead for good. Northern State added four more runs over the sixth and seventh innings to pull away. Abby Blair took the loss, surrendering three earned runs over four innings of work.
