JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team dominated Saturday's conference doubleheader, sweeping Bemidji State University at the Nelson Family Bubble. Combining timely hitting with gritty pitching performances, the Jimmies secured a 5-1 victory in the opener followed by an 8-4 win in the nightcap. The sweep moves Jamestown to 25-14 overall as they find their rhythm in NSIC play.
Game 1: Jamestown 5, Bemidji St. 1
In the opening contest, the Jimmies jumped out to a 5-0 lead early, sparked by a four-run second inning. In the first a Kassidy Bennett single to center field scored Trinity Gregg. Gregg later delivered the big blow of the second frame with a two-RBI triple to left-center field. Bennett and Lauren Weigel also drove in runs to cushion the lead. In the top of the seventh, the Beavers avoided the shutout when Maddie Kielsmeier delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to left field, scoring Maddie Schwab. On the rubber, Hope Ransome earned her eighth win, surrendering only one run while navigating out of several jams. Abby Blair entered in the seventh to record the final out and secure her fourth save.
Game 1: Jamestown 8, Bemidji St. 4
The nightcap featured a more high-scoring affair, with Jamestown matching every Beaver rally. The Jimmies built a 4-1 lead through four innings, including a two-RBI single from Jorja Hainsworth and an RBI single by Maddie Spaeth and Peyton Quam. After Bemidji State pulled within one in the fifth with an Aubrey Aukerman RBI single to left, and Calleigh Richards followed with an RBI single to center to cut the Jimmie lead to 4-3. UJ responded with three runs, aided by two Beaver errors, to pull away for good. Aubrey Quern picked up her ninth win of the year, striking out seven over 5.2 innings, while Blair earned her second save of the day.
