Jimmies Split Series with Bulldogs

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team moved to 26-15 overall after splitting a Sunday doubleheader against the University of Minnesota Duluth at the Nelson Family Bubble. The Jimmies showcased defensive grit in a shutout victory during the nightcap after dropping a competitive opener.

Game 1: Minn. Duluth 5, Jamestown 3
In the opening contest, Minnesota Duluth secured a 5-3 victory. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Sierra Thomas. The Jimmies did not go away easily and mounted a rally in the sixth, scoring three runs, first was an RBI single to center field by Hope Ransome, which scored Trinity Gregg, and a two-RBI double to left center from Jorja Hainsworth, which scored Tori Olson and Sonya Rodgers, but ultimately  the Jimmies fell short. Abby Blair took the loss, while Hope Ransome provided five innings of scoreless relief.

Game 2: Jamestown 1, Minn. Duluth 0
The nightcap was a classic pitcher's duel that saw the Jimmies prevail 1-0. Aubrey Quern turned in a masterful performance, tossing a complete-game shutout and allowing only four hits while striking out five. The Jimmies provided the only run in the first inning when Maddie Spaeth grounded out to shortstop, allowing Trinity Gregg to cross the plate. The Bulldogs best scoring opportunity came in the second inning when they loaded the bases with two outs, but Quern induced a strikeout to end the threat.
