MINOT, N.D. – The University of Jamestown softball team moved to 27-16 overall after splitting a Friday conference doubleheader against Minot State University at the MSU Bubble. The Jimmies demonstrated resilience by bouncing back for a definitive victory in the nightcap after a narrow defensive struggle in the opener.
Game 1: Minot St. 2, Jamestown 1
In the opening contest, Minot State secured a 2-1 victory. The Beavers took an early lead in the first inning when Sara VanWickler singled through the left side to drive in Taylor Smith. Minot then added a crucial insurance run in the fourth with Sarah Misner scoring on a passed ball to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead. Jamestown's lone run came in the fifth inning when Trinity Gregg delivered a clutch RBI double down the left-field line to score Sonya Rodgers, who had reached earlier in the frame with a double of her own. Hope Ransome turned in a strong performance in the circle, tossing a complete-game six-hitter and striking out seven.
Game 2: Jamestown 4, Minot St. 1
The nightcap saw the Jimmies reclaim their momentum with a 4-1 win. Jamestown took a 1-0 lead in the third after Trinity Gregg singled and eventually scored on a Madelyn Webb groundout. The Beavers recorded their only run in the top of fourth when Brooke Hyde doubled to right-center, scoring Ellington Anderson. The Jimmies answered in the b ottom of the inning by a Sydney Grendler RBI double that scored Natalie Draper.The Jimmies sealed the victory in the sixth inning when Grendler delivered again, this time with a clutch two-RBI double to left-center. Aubrey Quern earned the win, pitching 4.1 innings of one-run ball, while Abby Blair provided 2.2 innings of relief allowing just one hit to secure the save.
