Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz.-- The University of Jamestown softball team lost a pair of games Monday at the Tucson Invitational Games, falling 4-0 to No. 9 Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) University and 5-3 to University of Saint Francis (Ill.)
ONU 4, UJ 0
The Jimmies and Tigers took turns keeping each other off the scoreboard until ONU's Megan Mann hit a solo home run with two outs in the top of the sixth.
In the top of the seventh, Olivet Nazarene used a single, a walk, and back-to-back doubles to score three more runs and extend their lead to 4-0.
UJ was held to five hits, with Santina Zito (JR/Boise, Idaho) going 2-for-3 and Katie Merchant (JR/South Haven, Minn.), Megan Neiles (SO/Winnipeg, MB), and Ally Battistoni (FR/Elizabeth, Colo.) also getting hits.
Kat Miska (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) took the loss despite striking out 10 batters over 6 1/3 innings.
USF 5, UJ 3
Zito, Merchant, and Sunny Halsey (FR/Honolulu, Hawaii) all drove in runs as Jamestown took a 3-0 after their half of the first inning.
UJ held the lead until the bottom of the fifth, when the Saints struck for five runs on six hits, scoring one run on a wild pitch and another on an error.
The Jimmies were retired in order in the sixth and were able to get a one-out walk in the seventh, but could not score the tying runs.
Battistoni and La La Romero both had two hits while Zito, Merchant, and Gentrey Turin (SO/Sandy, Ore.) each had one.
Jamestown (8-5) will play three games on Tuesday--Kansas Wesleyan at 11 a.m., William Penn at 3:30 p.m., and Aquinas College at 5:45 p.m.
