Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz.-- Kat Miska (SR/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) scattered six hits over five scoreless innings, striking out eight as the University of Jamestown softball team defeated Saint Francis (Ill.) 8-0 Thursday at the Tucson Invitational Games.
LaLa Romero (FR/Surprise, Ariz.) went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored, Gracie Fisher (SO/Bemidji, Minn.) and Katie Merchant (JR/South Haven, Minn.) were both 2-for-3, and Santina Zito (JR/Boise, Idaho) and Gentrey Turin (SO/Sandy, Ore.) each drove in a pair of runs.
Zito singled in Romero in the first to make it 1-0, then drove in Romero with a sacrifice fly for UJ's first run in the third. Fisher's RBI double and Merchant's run-scoring single pushed the lead to 4-0.
Jamestown ended the game in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four runs on a single by Katie Reisdorfer (SR/Fresno, Calif.), a two-run single by Turin, and a sacrifice fly by Sunny Halsey (FR/Honolulu, Hawaii).
In Thursday's second game, the Jimmies took a 2-0 lead on Roosevelt (Ill.) University, but the Lakers scored seven times in the first and eight more in the second for a 15-2 win in five innings.
Merchant's double scored Turin and Megan Neiles (SO/Winnipeg, MB), accounting for both Jimmie runs. Turin had two of UJ's five hits.
Jamestown, 11-9 this season, finish their Arizona trip on Friday with an 11 a.m. game against Dakota State (S.D.) University and a 1:15 p.m. game against Dickinson State (N.D.) University.
