ABERDEEN, S.D.-- The University of Jamestown softball team split a pair of games Friday at the Fairfield Inn & Suites PC Dome Classic, hosted by Presentation College.

Jamestown (5-3) defeated Mayville State (N.D.) University 8-5 then were blanked 6-0 by Valley City State (N.D.) University.

The Jimmies wrap up the weekend with two more games on Saturday at the PC Dome, taking on Dickinson State (N.D.) University at 2 p.m. and Dakota State (S.D.) University at 4 p.m.

UJ 8, Mayville State 5
A six-run second inning proved to be enough offense for the Jimmies in Friday's opening win.

Down 2-0, Jamestown used a Katie Reisdorfer (JR/Fresno, Calif.) sacrifice fly, an RBI double by Sydney Prussia (JR/Detroit Lakes, Minn.), and a Comet throwing error to take a 3-2 lead. With Steph Cota (SO/Tucson, Ariz.) at third and Prussia at second, Morgan Geiszler (JR/Horace, N.D.) connected for a three-run home run to give UJ a 6-2 lead.

The Comets cut the lead to 6-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Cota doubled home a run in the bottom of the third and Katie Merchant (SO/South Haven, Minn.) singled in another run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 8-4 Jimmies.

Mayville State added a run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run.

Merchant (2-1) pitched five innings in relief for the win. She struck out eight and allowed one run on five hits.

Geiszler, Cota, Prussia, and Santina Zito (SO/Boise, Idaho) all had two hits for Jamestown.

VCSU 6, UJ 0
The Jimmies were kept off the scoreboard in Friday's second game, a 6-0 loss to Valley City State.

VCSU hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the first and a two-run shot in the bottom of the third, accounting for five of their six runs.

Morgan Geiszler doubled and had a pair of hits while Megan Neiles (FR/Winnipeg, MB) also had a double. UJ left seven runners on base.

Lucy Sinkkonen (FR/Cloquet, Minn.) (1-1) took the loss, giving up six runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings.
