Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz.-- The University of Jamestown softball team defeated Indiana Tech 10-8 in between losing a pair of one-run games, 4-3 to Kansas Wesleyan and 2-1 to Roosevelt (Ill.) on Monday.
Jamestown is back in action Tuesday with games against Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) and Texas Wesleyan University.
Jimmies 10, Indiana Tech 8
Steph Cota (SO/Tucson, Ariz.), Mikayla Frost (SR/Melba, Idaho), Mariah Martinez (SO/Visalia, Calif.), and Morgan Geiszler (JR/Horace, N.D.) all drove in runs for UJ in the bottom of the second as the Jimmies took a 6-0 lead against Indiana Tech.
The lead was short-lived as the Warriors responded with six runs of their own in the top of the third, then added two more in the fourth as UJ trailed 8-6 as they came to bat in the bottom of the fourth.
Jamestown scored three times on three hits and a pair of errors to retake the lead at 9-8.
Kassi Ward (JR/Olympia, Wash.) singled home Geiszler in the bottom of the sixth for an insurance run.
Samm Hamilton (SR/Boise, Idaho) (2-0) struck out three in two hitless innings of relief for the win. Katie Merchant (SO/South Haven, Minn.) worked the seventh for her first career save.
Frost, Martinez, Geiszler, and Ward all had two hits for the Jimmies.
Kansas Wesleyan 4, Jamestown 3
Kansas Wesleyan broke a 3-all tie with a single run in the top of the seventh for a 4-3 win against the Jimmies in the first game on Monday.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, UJ rallied to tie the game with two runs scoring on a Coyote error and the third run coming on a Ward single.
Martinez and Ward had two hits, while Cota, Frost, Katie Reisdorfer (JR/Fresno, Calif.), and Lauren Diemert (FR/West Fargo, N.D.) also recorded hits.
Merchant tossed a complete game in the loss.
Roosevelt 2, Jamestown 1
Two runs by Roosevelt in the bottom of the first proved to be all the offense the Lakers would need as they handed the Jimmies a 2-1 loss in Monday's third and final game.
Reisdorfer hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Ward for UJ's only run. The inning started with pinch-hit singles by Martinez and Ward to put runners at first and second. Following a passed ball, Martinez was out at home but Ward advanced to third.
Maggie Wallin (FR/Downey, Wis.) struck out seven and allowed just two hits in 5 2/3 innings of relief.
