Jimmies finish weekend sweep of Bellevue

BELLEVUE, Neb.-- The 21st-ranked University of Jamestown softball team recorded 20 hits in a pair of wins over Bellevue University Sunday, finishing a four-game weekend sweep of the Bruins.

Jamestown moves to 7-1 in North Star Athletic Association conference play and 24-4 overall. The Jimmies have now won 12 of their last 13 games. Bellevue falls to 17-11 overall and 3-5 in the NSAA.

The Jimmies won game one 6-2, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Morgan Geiszler (FR/Horace, ND) singled in a pair of runs and Tiffany Buis (SO/New Lenox, IL) plated another with a single.

Mikayla Frost (SO/Melba, ID) launched a solo home run in the next inning to make it 4-0. Tifani Schorzman (SR/Coeur d'Alene, ID) had an RBI single in the fourth and Kaitlyn Sassaman (SO/Ronan, MT) singled in another run in the fifth.

The Bruins ended the shutout with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth.

Brittany Rheault (SR/West Fargo, ND) (8-2) got the win with five innings of two-run ball. She gave up five hits and struck out three. Jasmine Pipella (FR/Boissevain, MB) worked the final two innings, striking out one and allowing one hit.

Schorzman finished 3-for-3 while Sassaman and Frost both had a pair of hits.

Kat Miska (SO/Pequot Lakes, MN) pitched her second complete game of the weekend in game two, striking out 12 as the Jimmies came away with a 5-2 win.

Miska's 12 strikeouts are tied for the third-most by a Jimmie pitcher.

Tifani Schorzman drove in a run in the first inning to put UJ ahead 1-0. Kelly Halverson (JR/Surrey, BC) drove in two and Emma Keller (SR/Poulsbo, WA) brought home another as the Jimmies extended their advantage to 4-0.

Bellevue made it 4-2 with two runs in the fourth, but Halverson's two-out RBI single made it 5-2.

Miska improved to 6-1 on the season with her fourth complete game of the season. Halverson, Keller, and Miriah Yoder (JR/Devils Lake, ND) all had two hits.

Jamestown travels to Valley City State (N.D.) for doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. The Jimmies hold a one-game lead over the Vikings in the NSAA standings.
