Jimmies open conference play with sweep of Saints

ABERDEEN, S.D.-- The Jimmie softball team began the North Star Athletic Association portion of their schedule Friday with a sweep of Presentation (S.D.) College, winning 8-2 and 3-0.

In Friday's first game, UJ led 8-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, but the Saints did their best to mount a comeback. They pushed three runs across to cut Jamestown's lead to 8-5. Jasmine Pipella (FR/Boissevain, MB) worked out of a one out, bases-loaded jam, first inducing a pop out to second baseman Morgan Geiszler (FR/Horace, ND), and then getting a called third strike for the final out of the game.

Kassi Ward (FR/Olympia, WA) had a home run and a double among her three hits. She registered her fourth multiple-hit game of the season while improving her average to .481. Mikayla Frost (SO/Melba, ID) singled twice and drove in a pair of runs, and Emma Keller (SR/Poulsbo, WA) connected for her third homer and drove in three runs.

Brittany Rheault (SR/West Fargo, ND) (3-1) was credited with the win, giving up two runs on four hits over six innings. She walked four and struck out four. Pipella's save was her third this season.

Kaitlyn Sassaman (SO/Ronan, MT) was 2-for-3 and scored a pair of runs as UJ took game two by a 3-0 score. Keller knocked in two runs and Allie McCain (JR/Duvall, WA) finished 2-for-2 and drove in Jamestown's other run.

Pipella made her first start and allowed just four scratch singles over six shutout innings. She walked two and struck out two, improving to 4-0 and lowering her earned run average to 0.59. Kat Miska (SO/Pequot Lakes, MN) pitched a clean seventh inning in her season debut to record the save.

Jamestown (10-1, 2-0 NSAA) is back in Aberdeen Saturday, playing Dickinson State (N.D.) in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
Presentation (5-6, 0-2 NSAA) takes on Bellevue (Neb.) starting at 10:00 a.m.
