Jimmies pound out 24 hits in Saturday sweep

ABERDEEN, S.D.-- The top four spots in the lineup combined for 11 of Jamestown's 14 hits as the Jimmie softball team defeated York (Neb.) 8-2 Saturday afternoon at the Presentation College Dome Tournament.

Mikayla Frost (SO/Melba, ID), Tifani Schorzman (SR/Coeur d'Alene, ID), and Kassi Ward (FR/Olympia, WA), the 2-3-4 hitters in the UJ lineup, all had three hits, while leadoff hitter Emma Keller (SR/Poulsbo, WA) and seventh-place hitter Morgan Flann (FR/Lake Lillian, MN) both had a pair of knocks. Flann doubled and Frost tripled for Jamestown's extra base hits, and Keller stole three bases.

Schorzman and Ward each drove in a pair of runs, and Keller and Allie McCain (JR/Duvall, WA) also had RBIs.

The Jimmies scored three runs in the first and then three more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. York answered with a run in the bottom of the second, then scored again in the fourth to make it 6-2. Jamestown rounded out the scoring with a pair of runs in the sixth to make it 8-2.

Jasmine Pipella (FR/Boissevain, MB) (1-0) pitched four innings in relief for the win. She allowed just one hit and struck out three.

Jamestown (6-1) defeated Presentation (S.D.) 10-2 in five innings earlier on Saturday.

Sydney Prussia (FR/Detroit Lakes, MN) was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, finishing with four RBI, while Keller drove in three runs with a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Frost and McCain also recorded multiple-hit games.

UJ scored one the first, three in the second, and four in the fourth for a commanding 8-0 after four innings. The Saints scored twice in the top of the fifth, but two runs by Jamestown in the bottom half ended the game via the eight-run rule.

Ann-Marie Crandlemire (FR/Sicamous, BC) (3-0) was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings.

The Jimmies will face Valley City State (N.D.) at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, then finish the weekend with a 4:00 p.m. game against Mount Marty (S.D.) College.
