No-hitter, extra-inning win highlight Jimmie opening day

ABERDEEN, S.D.-- Brittany Rheault (SR/West Fargo, ND) and Toree Rensmon (SO/Helena, MT) combined to no-hit Presentation (S.D.) in the opener, then in the second game of the day, the Jimmie softball team won in extra innings against Minnesota-Crookston.

The Jimmies scored three times in the bottom of the first against Presentation, then added five more in the third to take an 8-0 lead.

Emma Keller (SR/Poulsbo, WA) and Tifani Schorzman (SR/Coeur d'Alene, ID) both had two hits and scored twice. Mikayla Frost (SO/Melba, ID) had a double and two runs batted in. Morgan Geiszler (FR/Horace, ND), Kassi Ward (FR/Olympia, WA), Meghan Ramage (JR/Grand Forks, ND), and Morgan Flann (FR/Lake Lillian, MN) all registered hits.

Rheault worked the first four innings, striking out four and walking one. Rensmon struck out two and walked one in her inning of relief. The no-hitter was the second combined and 10th overall in UJ history.

The game was called after the top of the 5th due to the eight-run rule.

Jamestown scored single runs in both the first and third innings againt Minnesota-Crookston, only to have the Eagles tie the game in the top of the fourth.

UJ responded with two runs in their half of the inning, then plated another run in the bottom of the 5th to lead 5-2. Crookston rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth to level the game at 5-5.

Neither team could score in the seventh, and after holding the Eagles scoreless in the top of the eighth, Jamestown would find the winning run. Pinch-hitter Emma Keller led off the inning with a single and sacrificed to second by Mikayla Frost. Kassi Ward then singled to center, allowing Keller to cross the plate.

Ann-Marie Crandlemire (FR/Sicamous, BC) pitched 2 1/3 innings for the win. She scattered three hits and struck out two. Keller started and went three innings, allowing two earned runs on six hits. Jasmine Pipella (FR/Boissevain, MB) relieved Keller and struck out four in two innings of work.

The Jimmies pounded out 14 hits in the game. Keller, Frost, Kassi Ward, Tifani Schorzman, and Meghan Ramage had two hits each. Kelly Halverson (JR/Surrey, BC), Tiffany Buis (SO/New Lenox, IL), Katie Reisdorfer (FR/Fresno, CA), and Samm Hamilton (SO/Boise, ID) also had base hits.

Jamestown is in Aberdeen again today for three games--10:00 a.m. against Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.), 4:00 p.m. against Valley City State (N.D.), and 6:00 p.m. against Dakota State (S.D.)
