Jimmies host Bruins in battle of top two NSAA teams

The top two teams in the North Star Athletic Association meet in Jamestown for a Friday-Saturday series as the Jimmies (28-14 overall, 13-3 NSAA) host Bellevue (Neb.) (33-8, 12-2).

After a 5-7 performance in Tucson, Ariz., in March that left the Jimmies at 13-11, head coach Kevin Gall's squad has reeled off victories in 15 of its last 18 games. On the other side of the diamond, the Bruins have won 25 of 26, with their only blemish an 8-0 loss to Northwestern (Iowa) on March 16.

Bellevue has outscored its opponents 260-95 and is hitting .329 as a team. They are led by Sydney Robertson's .438 average and 12 stolen bases. Hannah Carter is hitting .410 and also has 12 steals, while Erin Sharpe is also above .400 (.402) and is 2nd in the NAIA with 17 home runs and 12th in RBI with 47.

In the circle, Kelli Fisher (0.92) and Erin Sharpe (0.99) both have sub-1.00 earned run averages. Fisher is 19-3 with 122 strikeouts in 137 innings while Sharpe is 6-0 in 56 2/3 innings. Lexi Lecalsey is 8-3 with a 1.73 ERA and is holding opponents to a .195 average in 64 2/3 innings.

Jamestown is enjoying one of its better offensive seasons in recent years. UJ is second in the NAIA with 90 doubles, sixth in total hits (429), ninth in runs scored (267), and 14th in batting average (.348). The Jimmies are outscoring opponents 267-157 and have 11 games with 10 or more runs.

Mikayla Frost (FR/Melba, ID) is batting .447 and has 67 hits, both team highs. Hanna Dunnigan (SR/Regina, SK) is also above .400, with a .407 average. Emma Keller (JR/Poulsbo, WA) is batting .394 with a team-best 16 doubles. She also leads the club with five home runs.

For the pitchers, Dunnigan is 12-5 with an NAIA-best seven saves. She has posted a 1.58 ERA and seven shutouts in 20 starts, and has 142 strikeouts in 137 innings pitched. Brittany Rheault (JR/West Fargo, ND) is 10-4 in 16 starts covering 78 1/3 innings pitches, and is averaging over a strikeout an inning with 82 punchouts.
