Jimmies drop two of three Tuesday

TUCSON, Ariz.-- Tuesday was a busy day for the Jimmie softball team as they played three games on their third day at the Tucson Invitational Games. Jamestown won 1-0 against St. Francis (Ill.) but fell to Mount Marty (S.D.) 12-11 in eight innings and 10-2 to Aquinas (Mich.) in five innings.

Hanna Dunnigan (SR/Regina, SK) pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out five in the Jimmies' 1-0 win over St. Francis. She also drove in the game's only run with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Mikayla Frost (FR/Melba, ID), Kelly Halverson (SO/Surrey, BC), Kaitlyn Combo (SO/Yuba City, CA), and Kylie Macaig (SO/Airdrie, AB) joined Dunnigan in the hit column.

A seven-run third inning against Mount Marty gave Jamestown a 10-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third, but the Lancers scored twice in the fifth, three times in both the sixth and seventh, and plated the game-winning run in the eighth.

Tifani Schorzman (JR/Coeur d'Alene, ID) was 4-for-5 with a pair of runs batted in and scored twice to lead the Jimmie offense. Dunnigan was 2-for-4 with four runs batted in and Frost also had a multiple-hit game.

In the final game of the day, Aquinas (Mich.) scored four times in the third and fourth innings to go up 8-0 as UJ came to bat in the fifth. RBIs from Frost and Halverson got the Jimmies on the scoreboard in the fifth, but Aquinas scored two more in the bottom half to end the game via the mercy rule.

Frost had two hits for the second straight game, and Halverson, Marissa Duchi (JR/Redding, CA), and Kylie Macaig also had base knocks for Jamestown (12-6).

Wednesday sees the Jimmies in action against William Penn University at 2:30 p.m. CST and Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) at 4:30 p.m. CST,
