TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Jimmie pitching staff was in top-notch form Monday.
Emma Keller (JR/Poulsbo, WA) and Callie Wemple (FR/Milford, CA) combined on a six-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over Lawrence Tech (Mich.), while in the nightcap Hanna Dunnigan (SR/Regina, SK) held Dordt (Iowa) to one hit over five innings and struck out 12 as UJ posted an 11-0 win.
An RBI double by Kaitlyn Sassaman (FR/Ronan, MT) and a misplayed grounder off the bat of Marissa Duchi (JR/Redding, CA) brought home two runs for Jamestown in the bottom of the first against Lawrence Tech, and it was more than enough run support for Keller.
The junior right-hander worked around three base hits and an error in the first two innings, allowing just two baserunners over her final 11 batters faced. Wemple pitched two scoreless innings for her first career save.
Dunnigan dominated the Defender lineup, striking out the side in the first, second, and third innings. Ten of her first 12 and 12 of her 15 outs came via strikeout. It was the third time this season and ninth in her career Dunnigan has struck out 10 or more hitters in a game.
The Jimmies led 5-0 as they came to bat in the bottom of the fourth, and put the game out of reach with six runs in the inning. A two-run double by Linda Ontiveros (SR/Yuma, AZ), a Dunnigan RBI single, and a two-run inside-the-park home run by Kylie Macaig (SO/Airdrie, AB) were the big hits in the inning. UJ also added a run via fielder obstruction.
Keller led a 16-hit attack, going 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Mikayla Frost (FR/Melba, ID), Kelly Halverson (SO/Surrey, BC), and Macaig all had a pair of hits. All 10 Jimmies with an official plate appearance registered a hit.
Jamestown is now 11-4 on the season and will play three games on Tuesday: St. Francis (Ill.) at 10:00 a.m. CST, Mount Marty (S.D.) at 2:30 p.m. CST, and Aquinas (Mich.) at 4:30 p.m. CST.
