TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Jimmie softball team trailed 10-6 after five innings, but rallied for seven runs in their final two at-bats to record a 13-10 victory in the first game of their Arizona trip Sunday.
Jamestown (9-4) took a 6-2 lead after the top of the fifth, but Dakota Wesleyan scored eight runs on eight hits, a pair of errors and a walk against three Jimmie pitchers in their half of the fifth to take a 10-6 lead.
The resilient Jimmies answered with four runs to tie the game just one inning later. Mikayla Frost (FR/Melba, ID) scored on the back half of a double steal for the first UJ run, then Marissa Duchi (JR/Redding, CA) connected for her first home run of the season, a two-run shot, to make it 10-9. Hanna Dunnigan (SR/Regina, SK) tripled, then scored on a wild pitch to draw Jamestown level.
Kelly Halverson (SO/Surrey, BC) provided the eventual game-winning RBI in the top of the seventh, bringing home Emma Keller (JR/Poulsbo, WA) with a single. An intentional walk to Duchi with the bases loaded brought home a second run, and Emma Gilbert (FR/Kelowna, BC)'s RBI groundout provided another insurance run for Jamestown.
Duchi had a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate and reached base in all five of her plate appearances. She scored twice and drove in three. Frost finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and two knocked in, while Keller, Halverson, and Dunnigan had two hits each.
Keller (3-0) pitched 2 1/3 of scoreless relief for the win. She struck out one and walked two.
Jamestown is back in action Monday with a pair of evening games. They play Lawrence Tech (Mich.) at 7:00 p.m CST and Dordt (Iowa) at 9:00 p.m. CST.
