Jimmies shut out Spires to salvage split

LEAVENWORTH, Kan.-- Brittany Rheault (JR/West Fargo, ND) pitched a two-hitter for her first shutout of the season and Mikayla Frost (FR/Melba, ID) was 3-for-4 as the Jimmies beat University of Saint Mary (Kan.) 3-0 in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday.

Tifani Schorzman (JR/Coeur d'Alene, ID)'s two-out single in the top of the sixth scored Kylie Macaig (SO/Airdrie, AB) to give Jamestown a 1-0 lead.

Frost made it 2-0 in the top of the seventh, laying down a squeeze bunt to bring home Hanna Dunnigan (SR/Regina, SK). A fielder's choice by Macaig scored Marissa Duchi (JR/Redding, CA) and UJ took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the inning. Rheault (4-3) held the Spires scoreless to complete the victory. She worked around four walks and three hit batters in her seven innings of work.

Dunnigan finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles while Macaig and Duchi also had hits.

In game one, Saint Mary scored four in the fifth and added five in the sixth in handing the Jimmies a 9-2 loss.

Frost was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Emma Keller (JR/Poulsbo, WA), Kelly Halverson (SO/Surrey, BC), Kaitlyn Combo (SO/Yuba City, CA), and Duchi had the other UJ hits. Halverson and Combo drove in the Jimmie runs.

Dunnigan (5-4) took the loss. She pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up six runs, five earned, on seven hits. The lefty walked two and hit four batters while striking out one. Keller pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up three runs on two hits.

Jamestown (14-12) plays Saint Mary at 11:00 a.m. Sunday and takes on No. 9 Morningside (Iowa) at 1:00 p.m.
