Jimmies end losing streak with win against Madonna

TUCSON, Ariz.-- The Jimmie softball team ended its four-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over Madonna (Mich.) Thursday at the Tucson Invitational Games.

Jamestown scored twice in the second and four times in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead. Madonna answered with two in the fourth and one in the sixth, but the Jimmies held on for the win.

Kelly Halverson (SO/Surrey, BC) had two doubles while Hanna Dunnigan (SR/Regina, SK) and Kylie Macaig (SO/Airdrie, AB) also recorded two hits. Emma Keller (JR/Poulsbo, WA) drove in a pair of runs and Halverson, Dunnigan, and Macaig accounted for the other UJ runs batted in.

Keller got the win in relief, pitching three innings for her fifth win of the season. Brittany Rheault (JR/West Fargo, ND) started and pitched three innings, allowed three hits, and struck out two. Dunnigan worked a scoreless seventh for her third save.

A seventh-inning home run proved to be the difference in Jamestown's 5-4 loss to Judson (Ill.) in Thursday's second game.

The Eagles led 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth before the Jimmies tied the game with a pair of runs.

Marissa Duchi (JR/Redding, CA) was 3-for-3 with two RBI while Kylie Macaig also had a pair of hits and 2 RBI.

Jamestown (13-9) concludes their Arizona trip with games against Concordia (Neb.) and Arizona Christian on Friday.
