Jimmies down Warriors and Tigers

ABERDEEN, S.D.-- The Jimmie softball team rode strong pitching performances from Hanna Dunnigan (JR/Regina, SK, Canada) and Brittany Rheault (SO/West Fargo, ND), defeating Waldorf College 6-1 and Dakota Wesleyan 5-3 at the Presentation Dome Tournament Saturday.

Jimmies 6, Waldorf 1

It was all Jimmies in the first game of the day, as UJ scored two runs in the first inning and added single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to take a 5-0 lead against Waldorf College.

Autumn Wang (SR/Devils Lake, ND) put the Jimmies up 2-0 in the first with a two-run single that plated Rylee Perez (SR/Indio, CA), who singled earlier in the inning, and Emily Newman (SR/Victoria, BC, Canada), who reached on a fielder's choice. Perez and Newman moved into scoring position on a double steal, and Wang's single easily scored both runners.

Jamestown made it 3-0 in the second inning as Brittany Rheault led off with a double. Brook Rheault (SR/West Fargo, ND) singled to center and Brittany Rheault scored without a throw.

Sydney Greenlund (SR/West Fargo, ND) would add a run-scoring single in the third and Newman's RBI double in the fourth made it 5-0 Jimmies. The five runs was more than enough for Dunnigan (1-1), who retired nine in a row, including striking out six of seven hitters in that span. The left-hander did not allow a hit until the fifth inning, when the Warriors scored their only run of the game.

Perez, Dunnigan, and Wang all had two hits for the Jimmies (3-2). Dunnigan went all seven innings in the circle, allowing one run on three hits, walking two and striking out 10.

Jimmies 5, Dakota Wesleyan 3

In the nightcap, the Jimmies took a 2-0 lead in the second inning without the benefit of a base hit. Hanna Dunnigan and Autumn Wang reached on back-to-back walks. With one out, Brittany Rheault reached on an error by the Tigers' first baseman, allowing Dunnigan to score and Wang to reach third. Brook Rheault's groundout drove in Wang for the second run of the inning.

Dakota Wesleyan answered back in the top half of the third with three runs of their own. Nicole Stark's one-out double scored Paige Kinley, who led off the inning with a walk. Karly Severance reached on a fielder's choice, moving to Stark to third. Savannah Ahumada tripled to right center, scoring Stark and pinch-runner Dougherty.

Jamestown trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, but staged a rally with two outs. Linda Ontiveros (JR/Yuma, AZ) walked and was replaced by pinch- runner Kylie Macaig (FR/Airdrie, AB, Canada). Emma Keller (SO/Poulsbo, WA) and Rylee Perez reached on back-to-back infield singles to load the bases. Emily Newman came through on an 0-2 pitch with a bases-clearing double to deep right center, giving the Jimmies a 5-3 lead.

The Tigers threatened in the top of the seventh, putting runners on first and second with two outs. Hailey Unger hit a line smash that was snared by second baseman Brook Rheault to preserve the victory.

Brittany Rheault (2-0) went the distance for Jamestown in her first complete game of the season. She allowed three runs on four hits, while walking six and striking out nine.

Newman finished 3 for 4 with 3 RBI to lead the Jimmies. Rylee Perez was 2 for 4 with a run scored, while Keller and Dani Norsby (SR/Shoreline, WA) accounted for the other Jimmie hits.

UJ (4-2) plays Waldorf and Minnesota-Crookston on Sunday to conclude the Presenation Dome action.
