Erica Rush's bat and the arm of Jessica Lees got the Jimmies off to a winning start.
Rush belted a 2-run home run and Lees fired a complete game as Jamestown College topped Lewis University (Ill.) Friday night at the Husky Dome Invite in St. Cloud, Minn.
Rush, hitting out of the 5-hole, broke the seal with a 2-run double in the top of the third inning for a 2-0 JC lead.
Lewis drew even with single runs in the third and fourth before the Jimmies hung five on the board in the top of the fifth.
After clean-up hitter Kate Johnson doubled in Kelsie Jensen with the go-ahead run, Rush stepped up and clubbed a 2-run home run to give the Jimmies the lead for good. They went on to add two more runs as Kelsie DeBroek singled home Rachel Ivelia. Later in the frame, Heather Haegele brought in Allison Roper with a ground out for their final run.
Lees made it stand up.
The senior from Arcola, Saskatchewan, scattered 10 hits in seven innings. She pitched in an out of trouble, walking five and striking out two.
The Jimmies have a busy 3-game schedule today, starting at 8 a.m. against Valley City State with Upper Iowa and the host Huskies back-to-back at 4 and 6 p.m., respectively.
