Steph Bolt nearly got the hook early in her start against Dickinson State on Friday.
Lucky, coach Kevin Gall did not pull the trigger.
After a shaky start, the junior from Glendale, Ariz., settled in and pitched the Jimmies into the winner's bracket at the DAC tournament in Minot by no-hitting 20th-ranked Dickinson State.
The 3-0 victory capped a near flawless afternoon on the mound for the Jimmies, who got a 6-hit shutout from Jessica Lees in the opener.
"You can't do much better than those two did," coach Kevin Gall said. "Every game from here on out is a big game."
After Lees blanked Minot State 3-0 in their opening game, Bolt outpitched Dickinson State ace Sara Jane Webster as the Jimmies capped off a 2-0 day
"I worked really hard. My catcher (Kirstin Enos) helped me out a lot calling out good pitches," Bolt said. "It was a good win for us."
The fourth-seeded Jimmies (19-31) and No. 2 seed Minot State (28-8) are the lone unbeatens left. They play today at 12:30 p.m., with the winner firmly in the driver's seat.

Bolt struggled early, especially in the second inning, walking a pair of Blue Hawks, but got out unscathed and settled into a groove from there.
"She threw six straight balls at one point, and this point in the season you can't mess around," Gall said of Bolt. "I thought about pulling her out at one point, but luckily I didn't."
Bolt walked four in the game, but struck out seven, getting the most mileage out of her rise-ball.
"It was exciting," she said. "Getting the win was the most important thing."
Bolt is not surprised by the team's fast start in Minot.
"I have faith in our team that we would come out and do good," she said.
The Jimmies scored all three of their runs in the top of the first, highlighted by Kelsie Jensen's 2-run triple. Becky Lewis added an RBI single.

Lees was nearly as good in the opener against the Comets.
The junior from Arcola, Sask., sailed through the first six before Mayville State loaded the bases in the seventh inning, but Lees maneuvered out of trouble and completed the shutout.
"She maintained her composure and kept making good pitches," Gall said.
The Jimmies scored one in the first and two more in the fourth.
They had just five hits, but one of them went over the fence when Celene Eccles connected for a solo home run in the top of the first. Lewis went 2-for-2 and scored a run.
