Blue Hawks Nip Jimmies

The Jamestown College softball team entered Thursday's contest with Dickinson State in a downward spiral, dropping 10 of their last 11 games, but a handful of those losses came in close finishes.

On Thursday, the story remained the same.

The Jimmies dropped two games to the Blue Hawks by one-run margins as their woes continue into their final six games of the season.

It took 10 innings before Dickinson State was able to edge out Jamestown College in Game 1, and a single run in the bottom of the sixth proved the difference as the Blue Hawks completed the sweep with victories of 3-2 and 1-0, respectively.

Steph Bolt went all nine innings on the mound for the Jimmies (14-28, 6-12 DAC) allowing just two hits and four walks. She fanned seven but the offense couldn't come through after a two-run top of the sixth.

Kelsie Jensen drove in both runs for the Jimmies in the sixth with a double, her only hit in the game, to put Jamestown College up 2-1, but the Blue Hawks (23-11, 12-2 DAC) bounced back for runs in the seventh and 10th to escape with the victory.

Jensen finished 1-for-3 from the plate, while teammates Heather Haegele and Celene Eccles each scored runs. Haegele finished 1-for-2 and Eccles went 1-for-3.

Taysia Kaufman went seven innings with six strikeouts and two runs allowed, and Sara Jane Webster closed it out without allowing a hit to earn the win. Webster struck out four and walked just one batter.

Webster carried that dominance over into Game 2 where she pitched a complete-game shutout to secure the sweep. Cassie Hite supplied the only hit for Jamestown College, while four Dickinson batters were able to reach base on hits. Ikea Mauldin drove in the game winner in the sixth after going 1-for-3.

The Jimmies will travel to Grand Forks to play the University of North Dakota today.
