Jamestown most recently suffered a 0-2-0 road trip in which they fell 0-1 to Bemidji State University this past Friday, and then lost to the University of Minnesota Duluth Sunday afternoon 4-0.
In their last game against the Bulldogs, UMD scored three times in the first half, then added another goal early in the second half en route to their four-goal victory. Chances to score were very limited in the game for UJ with
Gaby Lopez and
Emma Belyk finishing with the only two shots on goal. In net,
Taylor Musser made five saves in the effort.
On the season, Jamestown's offense is paced by
Julliet Lopez who has put together five goals and two assists for a total of 12 points, a big difference from only her one point a season ago.
Bre Oettle is the second-leading scorer at seven points as well as the team leader in assists with three.
Kyah Gabel has scored twice for four points while three others have three-point seasons with one game remaining.
In between the pipes for UJ is Musser who has played approximately 75 percent of the minutes in net. On the season, the freshman from Lewiston, Idaho owns a 1.92 goals-against average and a .755 save percentage to gather three wins plus a clean sheet.
Northern State is having a fantastique season with their overall record at 9-4-3 and 8-3-3 in the Northern Sun. With 27 points, the Wolves rank fourth in the conference standings and will have a lot to play for against the Jimmies. Depending on results throughout the 8-game NSIC soccer slate Thursday, the Wolves could get up to third place or fall as far down as eighth.
NSU went 0-1-1 on their latest road trip which was also against Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth as they exchanged opponents with the Jimmies on Friday and Sunday. After a tough 1-0 loss to the Bulldogs Friday, the Wolves gained a point with a 1-1 tie against the Beavers Sunday.
Versus BSU, the Wolves hit the board in the 13
th minute when Kylie Albert scored with assists from Chloe Voss and Jaylee Hofer. The Beavers scored on their first shot attempt of the second half to send the game to 1-1 which ended as the final score as well. The match was extremely even with both teams recording eight shot attempts while Northern State had one more shot on goal (3-2) as well as one more corner kick (3-2). Netminder Aubrey Burns made one save for NSU.
It has been a big jump for Northern State in the 2026 season after they went just 6-9-4 last year, though they did make an appearance in the NSIC Tournament with their 6-5-4 conference record which put them as the seven seed. The Wolves were downed 2-0 by Bemidji State in the Quarterfinal round to put their season to an end. In fourth-place now, the Wolves have exceeded their 2026 preseason expectations where they were selected seventh.
NSU is middle of the pack in the Northern Sun for offense with Hofer leading the way in that category with five goals and five assists. The Junior from Sioux Falls is tied for sixth in the conference in assists while her 15 points place her inside the top 10. Also with five assists is Albert who has registered a solid 11 points after her goal last game pushed her into double-digits in that category.
Two other key players are Chloe Voss with nine points (3G, 3A), and Lauren Youngquist, a big defenseman with three goals plus a helper who had a two-goal game earlier in the year against Southwest Minnesota State University (10/2).
Aubrey Burns will hold down the fort in net for the Wolves. The sophomore has put together a great season on an NSU team that ranks fifth in the Northern Sun in scoring defense. Burns owns a 0.78 goals-against average on the season to place fifth among NSIC goaltenders while her .784 save percentage and six shutouts rank inside the top seven. Most impressively, Burns had a week a while also in which she shutout both St. Cloud State University and Minnesota State University, combining for 11 saves in those two games to earn NSIC Goaltender of the Week.
