Duluth, Minn. - The University of Jamestown women's soccer team was downed 4-0 by the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Sunday afternoon in their penultimate contest of the 2026 season at James S. Malosky Stadium.
Jamestown falls to 4-9-4 with the loss and 4-7-3 in the NSIC with one game remaining. The Bulldogs push ahead to 10-5-2 and 9-4-1 in conference play as they gain three points to improve their hopes of hosting a Northern Sun Tournament playoff game.
Gaby Lopez got the game's first shot on goal in the sixth minute. Her shot was from about a 45 degree angle only around 12 yards away, but the ball was bouncing as she kicked it which led to a low-velocity shot and an easy save by Edy Halverson.
After this, UMD pressured a bit which led to two shot attempts as well as a dangerous free kick right outside the box. UJ fended off these chances, but they could not stop the third Bulldog shot of the game.
In the 14th minute, Kiera Odabode stole a pass out near midfield and dribbled down the middle of the field. From about 25 yards out, she was still uncontested and decided to boot a shot which was a beautiful kick into the top left of the Jamestown net as Duluth climbed ahead 1-0.
In the 35th minute, the Jimmies had a fastbreak with Isabella Martinez, Vega Canada, and Julliet Lopez leading the charge in a 3v2, but Lopez's cross was intercepted by a Bulldogs defender and blasted out of bounds. Halverson broke up the Jamestown chance on the resulting corner kick as well.
Halverson made another nice play on a Jamestown cross, and then in the 42nd minute, the Bulldogs notched another goal from distance. This time Amerlia Castleberg beat a defender, then launched a shot from about 30 yards away with the strike booking a 2-0 advantage for UMD.
Just 1:16 later, Duluth scored again off a corner kick which put them up a field goal. Halftime came around with the Bulldogs leading 3-0, 10-1 in shots, and 5-1 in shots on net. Each side had three chances on corner kicks.
The Jimmies pushed into the UMD end of the field a few minutes into the second half and got a nice cross from Lopez headed to the back post, but Bre Oettle could not quite get to it in time. Duluth responded on the other end with another goal off a corner kick.
Down 4-0 now, the next shot came from Canada in 57th minute which was from about 35 yards out and well high of the net.
Into the 70th minute, the Jimmies got a chance on a corner kick which led to a header by Martinez, but her open look right on the edge of the Bulldogs 6-yard box was sent high of the net.
Taylor Musser made a nice save in the 78th minute, but offensively speaking, only one more Jamestown shot on goal occurred. This was from a great through ball by Canada to Oriana Borrome flying down the right side of the field. Right around the top right corner of the box, Borrome took an open shot, but Halverson deflected it above her head, then jumped on top of it to make a nice save on what was the Jimmies best look of the afternoon.
The second half buzzer expired a bit later as UJ was sent home with a 4-0 defeat in Duluth. Gaby Lopez and Borrome notched one shot on goal each while Musser made five saves in the contest. The Bulldogs, the leading shot attempt team in the Northern Sun, won total shots (16-5), shots on goal (9-2), as well as corner kicks (8-4).
The Jimmies will wrap up their season with a road match against Northern State University on Thursday, October 29 at 5:30 p.m.
