FREMONT, Neb. – The University of Jamestown women's wrestling team competed at the Midland Warrior Open on Saturday, led by a fourth-place finish from
Emily Novak.
UJ RESULTS
Novak racked up five victories by fall. She started her tournament run with back-to-back sub-minute pins, defeating Rhees Hatch of Hastings in 53 seconds and Southeast CC's Diesel Janovich in 51 seconds. After a quarterfinal loss, Novak battled through the consolation bracket with three consecutive pins against opponents from William Penn, Baker, and Fort Hays State University. She ultimately placed fourth after a no-contest result against Larissa Gallo of Lindsey Wilson in the third-place match.
Ann Meiman (145) also had a strong showing, winning her first two matches by fall. She pinned Lucia Henriquez of Baker in 1:22 and Kristy More from Sioux Falls in 5:27. Meiman added a third pin in the consolation rounds against Sydney Andrews before ending her day with a loss to Ayana Fletcher of Iowa Western Community College.
At 131 pounds,
Nora Houglum posted a 2-2 record. After dropping her opening match, she responded with a 10-0 tech fall victory over Baker's Danielle Holt and a pin of Southeast CC's Abigale Holtz in 4:25. Her run ended in a tight 2-1 decision loss to Aileya Sath of Baker.
Leah Willard (160),
Celia Jaeger (207), and
Koiline Govergo (207) each picked up a win by fall for Jamestown. Willard pinned Sioux Falls' Rachel Berger in 2:17. Jaeger defeated Annie Lopez of Hastings in 1:07 , while Govergo earned a fall over Wyntergale Oxendine from Indian Hills in 2:01. Both Govergo and Jaeger finished 1-2 on the day.
The Jimmies return to dual action on Sunday, February 8 at Minot State University.
