Jimmies come up short in exciting NSAA Championship matchup with Dickinson

Dickinson, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men's basketball team, the No. 2 seed, played an exciting game with the No. 1 seed, Dickinson State University Blue Hawks, in the NSAA Championship on Tuesday night. Despite outscoring the Blue Hawks in the second half, the Jimmies ended just five points short of the conference title. Anthony Walters had 15 points for the Jimmies, and Cole Glasgow followed with 13. Silas Bennion and Jimmy Llinas each added 11, and Owen Hektner rounded out double-figure scoring with 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Jimmies and Blue Hawks played a very close first eight minutes as neither team achieved a significant lead. With the Jimmies up 10-9, Kose Egbule sank two threes for Dickinson to gain a five-point lead, the largest of the night. 
  • The Jimmies responded quickly with a 9-3 scoring run, credited to Hektner and Glasgow's combined nine points to bring themselves ahead 19-18. 
  • This was the Jimmies last lead of the half as their shots struggled to fall, and Dickinson took advantage, running up a lead of nine points. 
  • The Jimmie defense worked the last two minutes to avoid a double-figure deficit, and Glasgow scored the final two points of the half to enter the second down 28-35. 
  • The Jimmies started the second half by outscoring the Blue Hawks 10-2 to come back from their seven-point deficit and lead by one. 
  • The teams took turns with the lead the next couple minutes, but with 12:31 to go, the Jimmie offense fired up with triples from Walters and Glasgow and used that momentum to gain a 57-50 lead over the Blue Hawks with 5:49 on the play clock.  
  • The Blue Hawks fought and picked away at the Jimmies lead, eventually catching them with under a minute to play. 
  • Holding the Jimmies scoreless in the final minute and forcing them to foul, the Blue Hawks took the NSAA Championship win by five points, 67-62. 
  • Bennion had three of the Jimmies six steals, Glasgow held four of their 13 assists, and Walters grabbed eight of their 32 rebounds.

  • The Jimmies now wait to see if they receive a bid into the NAIA National Tournament. The final bracket will be announced on March 6.
