Jimmies wrap up regular season with sweep of Minot State

JAMESTOWN, N.D. — The fourth-ranked University of Jamestown women's volleyball team concluded the regular season with a sweep of Minot State (N.D.) University in non-conference action Thursday evening at Harold Newman Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Charlotte Lempka's kill gave UJ a 10-6 lead in the first set and started a 5-1 run that put the Jimmies ahead 14-7.
  • Minot State closed the gap to 14-9 but Jamestown used a kill by Lexi Olson and three consecutive Beaver attack errors to make it 18-9.
  • A 6-0 run including kills by Aleah Zieske, Lempka, and Karlie Anderson finished off the set, giving the Jimmies a 25-11 victory.
  • MSU held a slim 5-4 edge in set two before Gracie Adamson tied the score with her second kill of the frame. Lempka posted back-to-back kills with Zieske and Anderson following to make it 9-5.
  • Jamestown won seven of the last 10 points to take the set 25-13 and a 2-0 match lead.
  • Behind the serving of Lily Bertsch and Zieske in the third set, UJ raced out to a 10-1 lead and never looked back.
  • Leading 16-3, the Jimmies got a pair of aces from Tenley Buddenhagen and three kills from Maddie Demars as the score ballooned to 21-3.
  • The Jimmies hit .447 overall, their highest mark of the year, and had 53 kills, the most in a three-set match this season.
  • Zieske led the way with 13 kills and Adamson finished with 10. Lempka hit .857 with 6 kills on 7 attempts.
  • Buddenhagen passed out 22 assists and Lily Bertsch had 21.
  • Ellie Holen ended with 15 digs and Adamson had three total blocks, including one solo.

  • Jamestown has the number two seed in the North Star Athletic Association postseason championship, which begins on Saturday, November 9. The Jimmies along with top-seed Bellevue (Neb.) automatically advance to the quarterfinals on Friday, November 15 in Belleuve, Neb.
  • UJ will play the winner of Saturday's No. 6 Mayville State (N.D.) vs. No. 3 Dakota State (S.D.) on Friday, November 15 at 5 p.m., while Bellevue will face the winner of Saturday's No. 5 Dickinson State (N.D.) vs. No. 4 Valley City State (N.D.) on Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m.
