Jimmies win second straight with victory at Waldorf

FOREST CITY, Iowa—The University of Jamestown women's soccer team won their second straight match with a 2-1 victory over Waldorf University on Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Hilary Hernandez took a pass from Sidney Mikes and beat Warrior keeper Samantha Linteo for a 1-0 Jimmie lead just two minutes into the contest.
  • Hernandez made it 2-0 with another goal in the seventh minute, this time assisted by Vega Canada.
  • Waldorf got back into the match on Mikayla Smith's goal in the 23rd minute, cutting into the UJ lead.
  • In the second half, the Warriors won a pair of corner kicks early on while maintaining the majority of possession.
  • Jamestown turned the tide in the in the 68th minute after Waldorf conceded a corner kick, and a header by Miarosa Gyllenswan went wide, keeping the match at 2-1.
  • The Warriors tried for the equalizer but only one attempt required UJ keeper Tea Pence to make a save. Zoe Silovich's shot in the 80th minute was turned away by Pence, and the final Waldorf shot came from Silovich in the 83rd minute. It sailed wide right of the post, and the Jimmies were able to see play out the final seven minutes.

FOR THE JIMMIES

  • Pence recorded two saves in goal.
  • Jamestown had five of their 14 shots on target, with Canada, Ryley Bedard, and Breanna Oettle joining Hernandez with shots on goal.
  • UJ had a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.

FOR THE WARRIORS

  • Linteo stopped two of the four shots she saved.
  • Waldorf finished with seven shots in all, three on target.
  • The Warriors remain winless (0-5-2) against the Jimmies since 2011.
