SIOUX CITY, Iowa.-- The University of Jamestown football team had an early fourth-quarter lead against No. 3 Morningside University, but the Mustangs scored twice in just over five minutes to take a 39-29 victory Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- John Grann's first career touchdown pass got the Jimmies on the board at the 9:27 mark of the first quarter. Grann found Carlos Julian on a 58-yard wheel route, and Gage Solano ran in the two-point conversion attempt to make it 8-3.
- The Mustangs built a 17-8 lead after a 16-yard pass from Lennx Brown to Ryan Cole with 14:35 left in the half.
- Grann tossed his second touchdown of the game, finding Micah Madyun from two yards out, as the Jimmies pulled within 17-15.
- Morningside made it a two-score game again after Jamal Jones intercepted Grann and returned the ball 67 yards for a touchdown, and the score was 24-15 at the half.
- Zachariah Hammett accounted for the only touchdown in the third quarter, plunging in from one yard out with 4:40 left to make it 24-22.
- Jamestown took its second lead of the game after Grann connected with Ryan Collins on a 10-yard scoring pass at 13:24 of the fourth quarter.
- Brown had touchdown runs of eight and five yards down the stretch as the Mustangs held off UJ's upset bid.
