Furious rally falls short for Jimmies vs. Northern State

JAMESTOWN, N.D. -- The University of Jamestown football team ended its 2025 season in a blaze of offensive glory Saturday, but a furious fourth-quarter comeback was not enough to overcome a massive deficit in a 46-40 shootout loss to Northern State University at Charlotte & Gordon Hansen Stadium.

The Jimmies (1-9, 1-9 NSIC) entered the final quarter trailing 38-21 but exploded for 19 points in a dramatic rally that fell just short. The Wolves (7-4, 6-4 NSIC) leaned on a powerful rushing attack to build their lead and hold on for the win.

Jamestown's offense was a tale of two quarterbacks, both of whom found success. Starter Cole Hentges was efficient, finishing 12-of-16 for 78 yards and two first-half touchdowns, both to wide receiver Erastus Antsino.

In the second half, Nicholas Martinez entered the game and provided a significant spark, accounting for four total touchdowns. Martinez threw for 163 yards and two scores while adding 76 yards and two more touchdowns on the ground.

His heroics fueled the fourth-quarter comeback. Martinez first connected with Nate Burke for a 32-yard touchdown pass to open the quarter. After a Northern State score, Martinez engineered two more scoring drives in the final four minutes. He rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, and after a successful onside kick, he hit Ethan Hoffman for a 46-yard touchdown strike with just 15 seconds remaining to cut the lead to 46-40.

The Wolves, however, secured the final onside kick attempt to end the threat.

Northern State's offense was a two-headed monster on the ground, amassing 325 rushing yards. Running back Wyatt Block was the star, carrying the ball 19 times for 190 yards and three touchdowns, including a back-breaking 70-yard touchdown run just before halftime. Quarterback Daniel Britt added 105 rushing yards.

The Jimmies' offense was prolific in its own right, totaling 432 yards and converting on 9-of-18 third downs. Running back Zach Hammett led the ground game with 85 yards on 18 carries.

Defensively, linebacker Evan Smith led Jamestown with nine total tackles. The Jimmies' pass rush was effective, registering four sacks on the day, with Tristan Huse, Dawson Gregg, Ethan Halverson, and John Hulquest each recording one.
