Brian Mistro named new Jimmie football head coach

University of Jamestown Director Athletics Sean Johnson announced that Brian Mistro has been named head coach of the Jimmie football team.

Mistro becomes the 20th head coach in program history and replaces Josh Kittell, who resigned earlier this month to become the recruiting coordinator at North Dakota State University.

"Coach Mistro is an outstanding leader who has the passion, vision, and intellect to be successful at anything he sets his mind to," Johnson said. "He will take our football program to a new level of success because he is an excellent communicator, who can evaluate every situation and make adjustments when necessary, will build a culture for our program that mirrors that of our institution, and will inspire our student-athletes, our campus, and our community."

A native of Gilbert, Ariz., Mistro spent the last seven seasons as an assistant at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., where he was the defensive backs coach, special teams coordinator, and co-recruiting coordinator. The Cobbers posted a record of 51-19 during Mistro's time on staff.

"Jamestown is getting a very qualified football coach that will bring passion to the job each and every day," said Concordia head coach Terry Horan. "I've been around a lot of successful football coaches, and I can honestly say that Brian ranks right up there with the best that I have had the chance to work with."

Before joining the Cobber staff, Mistro was a graduate assistant at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. He earned a Master's of Science in Education, Teaching, and Learning with an emphasis in Health, PE, and Coaching in May of 2012.

"It is an exciting day for Jimmie Football to have Brian Mistro named head coach," Northern State head coach Tom Dosch said. "A Jimmie through and through, Brian's loyalty to his alma mater is without question. He will bring great energy, experience, and excitement to the program as well as the entire athletic department. His outgoing, positive attitude is contagious and will be a huge boost for the program."

Mistro graduated from Jamestown College in 2009 with a degree in Communications with a Media concentration. He was a two-year starter at safety for the Jimmies and served as team captain while earning All-Conference honors his senior year.

Mistro will be introduced at a press conference Wednesday in the McCullough Foyer at Harold Newman Arena beginning at 12:15 p.m.
