ST. PAUL, Minn.-- Matt Young (JR/Woodland, Wash.) broke the University of Jamestown record in the 5000 meters and qualified for the NAIA National Championships Friday at the St. Thomas Showcase.
Young placed 9th with a time of 15 minutes, 10.10 seconds, beating the previous school record of 15:12.08 set by Allen Wood in 2006.
Ed Mata (SR/Alamo, Texas) came away with a pair of top-8 finishes in his events. Mata was 5th in the high jump (1.79m; 5 feet, 10.5 inches), and was 8th in the triple jump (12.12m; 39 feet, 9.25 inches).
Jamestown will host the North Star Athletic Association Multi-Events on February 11-12 before competing in the NSAA Indoor Championships in Brookings, S.D., on February 17.
