Rocky Mountain College got off to a really good start last season.

That is something the Jimmies would love to do themselves this year.

Both teams get their first crack at it tonight when they meet in Miles City, Montana, for a 7 p.m. kick off.

The Battlin' Bears were 3-1 when September ended last season, only to go 2-5 the rest of the way.

The Jimmies won their opener last season, but only two more Ws followed.

"They're a good team and they play in a strong conference," said Shawn Frank, preparing for his first game as head coach. "It will be a really good test for us."

Fast facts

The Battlin' Bears averaged 24.7 points per game last season and allowed 24.2. The Jimmies allowed 26, but struggled scoring with only 15.5 per contest, due in large part to inconsistent quarterback play and injuries to key players. RMC is in the always difficult Frontier Conference, which now includes Dickinson State. It's also home to NAIA power Carroll College, which has played in eight national championship games since 2002, including last season's 24-20 loss to St. Francis, Ill.

JC 'O'

The Jimmies will unveil a new offense, more under center and less spread. Gus Ramasco starts at quarterback after winning a 3-way competition in fall camp. Running backs Lance Johansen and Matt Mithaugen figure to see many touches in the new attack. Both Ramasco and RMC QB Bryce Baker are from Nevada.

Carrying the load

RMC relied heavily on QB Bryce Baker last season. As a freshman, the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder threw for 1,572 yards and ran for nearly 300 more. He threw 16 TDs and ran for seven.

Local flavor

Jamestown College's roster includes 30 kids from North Dakota. RMC, located in Billings, Montana, has 52 kids from Montana in the program. Montana's state population is nearly one million, while North Dakota is under 700,000. Jamestown College is slightly bigger students-wise: 967-894 (2011-12 school year)
