Dan Janu profile (Feb. 12, 2014)

Dan Janu

Dan Janu is a 6'7" sophomore from Frazee, Minnesota. He decided to attend Jamestown because of the history of the basketball program and the successful nursing program.

He said, "Life as a Jimmie has been great so far. I have met a lot of great people and they have helped me become the person I am today."

Janu has started 15 of the 24 Jimmie games this season and leads the team in blocks (11). His career high for scoring is 21 points vs Oglala Lakota on 1/12/13. He added 14 points in that game for a double-double. In his second season with Jamestown, he is shooting a 44.8% clip on field goals, scoring 192 points, grabbing 185 rebounds, and blocking 30 shots. However, he is 0 for 2 from beyond the arc in his UJ career. In the first game vs Presentation this season, he scored 9 points and collected 7 rebounds.

Dan Janu is a Nursing Major – one of the more challenging and successful fields at the University of Jamestown

Two previous Jimmie basketball players featured (Brequan Tucker and Morgan Mathison) both listed a favorite athlete as LeBron James. We can make that three now as Janu also listed James as a favorite.

If you cooked steak and potatoes on the grill, Janu might show up at your doorstep. And he might even like to watch or play his other favorite sport of football.

Janu, when asked about his favorite assistant coach said, "Ryan Vigen is my favorite because of the work he put in with me starting in 8th grade and sticking with our team until I graduated."

A quote that sticks in Dan's mind is from the all-time great UCLA coach John Wooden, "It's the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen."

A quote from Dan he would like to say to Jimmie Nation is, "Our fan support is great! Stay hungry and #EAT."

A goal of Dan's after graduation is to "Pass the nclex exam and become and RN. Work for a couple years and attend grad school for specializing in anesthesia. Hopefully passing the test to become a CRNA (anesthetist)."

Quotes about Dan Janu:

Maggie Seter, a Jimmie women's basketball player, had this to say about Dan, "Daniel is an extremely hard worker on the court and he plays for his coaches and teammates. He loves the game and isn't afraid to put in the extra effort."

Assistant coach Danny Neville said that Dan, "brings a positive attitude and works hard on and off the court."

Teammate Mark Hoge had this to say about Dan, "Dan is an outstanding person, I am honored to be able to stand by him on the court. He has really stepped it up for our team this year with a couple posts going down. His game has increased dramatically and I can't wait to see the rest of his career develop."

Jimmie teammate Taylor Newton said, "Dan is an absolutely great teammate. He is willing to do whatever it takes to help the team win. He has come a long ways since his freshman year and I believe that many great things are yet to come from him."
