Bismarck, N.D. – The University of Jamestown men's golf team put together a strong team effort on day one of the United Printing Marauders Invitational at the Hawktree Golf Club, finishing the first round of the two-day tournament in third place out of a field of 12 competing teams.
As a team, the Jimmies shot 295 (+7), a 17-stroke improvement from their previous meet at the MSU/CSP Fall Brawl two weeks ago. They are four strokes behind the hosting school, the University of Mary, and 11 strokes behind the leading Augustana Vikings who have a team score of 284 (-4) heading into round two tomorrow.
Porter Seidel was the top UJ finisher, carding a round of 71 (-1), with six birdies, seven pars and five bogeys as he heads into round two in a tie for sixth place overall.
Nathan Hoogsteen joins Seidel inside the top 10 as the freshman put together a big improvement from his previous tournament, shooting 73 (+1) and finishing in the tie for ninth place. The Thunder Bay, Ont. native had an impressive eagle on a 569-yard par-5 on hole seven. This was the only eagle of the day from the Jimmies.
Noah Law and
Jack Josephsen round out the Jimmies scorers with Law shooting 75 (+3) and Josephsen one stroke behind at 76 (+4).
Bodie Williams participated in the event with a final score of 78 (+6) and
Mac Maluski competed as an individual with a score of 76 (+4) giving the entire competing team of the Jimmies a score under 80.
Henry Hartquist of Augustana is the tournament leader halfway through, carding a round of 67 (-5), a two-stroke lead over second-place Ryker Landers who has a score of 69 (-3).
The Jimmies will look to continue their success on Day 2 of the United Printing Marauders Invitational tomorrow, September 29.
