Minot, N.D. – Porter Seidel finished day two shooting 68 (-3) to finish in a tie for first place to lead the University of Jamestown men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Battle in the North hosted by Minot State University at the Beowulf Golf Club.
The top four finishers for Jamestown combined for a score of 286 (+2), a 12-stroke improvement from the previous day to finish the event with 584 (+16). It was a tight field at the top with just four strokes separating the top three teams. The University of Mary won the event at 580 (+12) and Minot State was right behind the Marauders with a score of 582 (+14).
Seidel posted a score of 68 (-3) in the second round of the tournament, shooting even on the front nine, but carding three birdies in the last four holes to get improve from fourth place after day one to a share of the individual title on day two with a total score of 141 (-1). For the Minnesota native, this was the first time he had ever claimed at least a share of first place.
Noah Law jumped up a couple of places in the overall standings after shooting three-strokes better on day two. With his score of 75 (+3) the first day and 72 (+1) the second, the sophomore finished in a tie for seventh with an overall score of 147 (+5).
Immediately behind Law was Mac Maluski who shot 74 (+3) on both days for a total score of 148 (+6) as he finished as the third Jimmie inside of the top 10. Nathan Hoogsteen showed the greatest improvement from day one in the field after he shot just 72 (+1) on the second day and finished with a total score of 159 (+17).
Other competitors for UJ were Jack Josephsen, firing a round of 76 (+5) the first time through the course, then 75 (+4) the second to finish with the fourth-highest overall UJ score at 151 (+9).
Cole Campbell and Aidan Hall participated as individuals with final two-round scores of 156 (+14) and 158 (+16), respectively.
Kasen Rostad of Minot State and Payton Hiller at UMary tied alongside Seidel with scores of 141 (-1) with the two of them each shooting under par on day two as well. Max Palmer and Seidel were the two top finishers on day two after each carded rounds of 68 (-3).
The Jimmies will return to action on Monday, October 12 where they will play in the USF Fall Invitational, their final event of the fall season, down at the Grand Falls Casino and Golf Resort in Larchwood, Iowa.
