Minot, N.D. – Three Jimmies rank inside the top ten and the University of Jamestown men's golf team is third out of five teams after the first round of the Battle in the North hosted by Minot State University at the Beowulf Golf Club.
As a team, the Jimmies shot sub-300 for the second time this season, starting the first round at 298 (+14). The Jimmies are just three strokes behind the leading team, the University of Mary, halfway through the Tournament with the Marauders at 295 (+11). UMary's B team is second and one stroke ahead of UJ at 297 (+13). Minot State is in fourth with a team score of 300 (+16).
Seidel continued his nice start to the fall season with a round of 73 (+2) on day one of the tournament to finish in a share of fourth place, recovering well after a triple bogey on the first hole. The sophomore from Fargo finished with four birdies, 10 pars, and three bogeys in addition to his triple bogey.
Mac Maluski was one stroke behind Seidel with a score of 74 (+3), which included the only UJ eagle of the day with just three strokes needed to finish the par-5 546-yard hole 14. The Minnesota native heads into day two in a tie for seventh.
Noah Law at 75 (+4) finished inside of the top 10 as well while also recording a team-high six birdies. Freshman Jack Josephsen was the final Jamestown scorer at 76 (+4).
Nathan Hoogsten carded 87 (+16) while Cole Campbell and Aidan Hall each turned in solid performances as individuals with 77 (+6) and 79 (+8), respectively.
Quinn Breidenbach, out of UMary was the only golfer to shoot under par with the Marauder at 70 (-1) halfway through the tournament, one stroke ahead of second-place Kasen Rostad of Minot State and three strokes ahead of Seidel.
Day two of the Battle in the North will continue tomorrow with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
