Jamestown, N.D. – The University of Jamestown women's volleyball team will have their first in-state battle when the play at Minot State University Saturday.

The Teams
The Jimmies will head into Saturday's match with an overall record of 10-3 and 3-2 in the NSIC. In their last match, Jamestown encountered their travel partner, Northern State University, on Thursday for a big game in Harold Newman Arena. UJ got ahead 2-0 in the match, but three straight set victories by the Wolves sent the Jimmies to a reverse-sweep defeat to the Wolves.
Gracie Adamson had her best performance in NSIC play with 17 kills and 15 digs. Three others had 10 digs, including Kyliegh Schopp which was a career-high for the sophomore.
Sophie Ketterling continued her ways, tying a career-high with 29 digs (5.8 digs per set) in the loss. The Jimmies were out attacked slightly at .182 (66-30-198) for the Wolves and .172 (60-26-198) for Jamestown. NSU had a few more aces (7-4), digs (91-89), and assists (60-55) as well.
After her 17-kill performance, Adamson continues to pace Jamestown with kills on an average of 3.47 per set which places the senior form South Dakota sixth in the conference. She also averages 3.53 digs per game, which is 11
th in the conference and second on the team.
Charlotte Lempka is a key contributor as well with an average of 2.24 kills per set ad a .322 attacking percentage (101-34-208) after she eclipsed the 100-kill mark of the season against NSU. Ketterling brought her digs per set total slightly up as it now sits at 5.68 per set. This ranks sixth in D-II volleyball. Schopp is now qualified for statistical leaders in the NSIC with the sophomore playing in 35 sets. The middle hitter ranks third in the Northern Sun with 1.11 blocks per set while
Caroline Puetz in 12
th at .88.
Heading into tomorrow's game with Minot, Jamestown ranks second in the conference in digs per set (17.4) and opponent hitting percentage (.159). With Schopp leading the way, UJ is third in blocks per set at 2.16.
Minot State will enter the game against the Jimmies with a record of 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the conference. After not a half-bad start to the season, the Beavers have lost five in a row – all NSIC contests – without winning a set in any of those matches.
Recently, Minot State dropped a three-set match to the University of Mary on the road Thursday. Katelyn Onespot-Danforth had a team-best 10 kills and three blocks while Caton Pearcy had a solid match with seven kills and 12 digs. Maya Vibeto recorded 19 digs. The Beavers attacked .132 (39-22-129) while UMary was .209 (48-21-129). The Beavers were also outpaced in aces (4-2), blocks (10-6), and digs (61-46).
The volleyball program in Minot has struggled in recent years. Last season, Minot State went 3-27 with a 1-19 NSIC record. Preseason expectations were not high either with the Beavers picked to finish last in the NSIC Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Offense has not been great for Minot State, but Pearcy and Onespot-Danforth lead the way with 2.17 and 2.15 kills per set, respectively. Logan Drennan commands the setting with an average of 7.31 assists per set while also averaging 2.55 digs per set, and a team-high 15 service aces. Vibeto is arguably their best player as she is only behind Ketterling in the NSIC for digs per set, averaging 4.96 on a team leading the conference with 17.43 digs per set. The hometown player has recorded over 20 digs five times already, and earned herself an NSIC Defensive Player of the Week award two weeks ago.

Head coach
Jon Hegerle has had the Beavers number as the head coach of the Jimmies, owning a 9-1 record over them during his 18 years at the helm. This includes two sweeps over Minot State in 2024, followed by a 3-1 victory last year in Jamestown's first season as members of the Northern Sun.
In the match last year, the Jimmies dropped the first set 25-21, but had sizeable victories in the next three set at 25-12, 25-16, and 25-18.

Mya Foslien had 11 and nine kills respectively,
Kyleigh Schopp put together five blocks,
Ava Bertsch had 24 assists and seven digs, and
Momoka Minamiya posted 21 digs. The Jimmies had one of their best offensive games of the season with 58 kills and a .273 attacking percentage (58-17-150).

Following Saturday's game, the Jimmies will play at the University of Mary for the first of two matches against the Marauders on Tuesday, September 29 at 6 p.m.
