JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown baseball team engaged in an offensive shootout but ultimately fell 18-7 to St. Cloud State University on Sunday afternoon at Jack Brown Stadium.
Game Summary
St. Cloud State (20-24, 16-15 NSIC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Wyatt Tweet. Jamestown (13-31, 8-23 NSIC) responded immediately in the bottom half of the frame. After
Mathieu Morin singled and later came around to score on a throwing error,
Ben Swennumson laced an RBI single to center field to tie the game at 2-2.
The Huskies regained control with a four-run second inning, powered by a three-run home run from Max Robinson and a solo shot by Wilmis Castro. The Jimmies answered again in the bottom of the second. Morin launched a two-run home run to right field, and
Jett Nelson immediately followed with a solo home run, cutting the deficit to 6-5.
St. Cloud State extended their lead with a three-run third inning to make it 9-5. Nelson kept the Jimmies within striking distance, belting his second home run of the game in the fourth inning and adding an RBI groundout in the sixth, bringing the score to 11-7.
The Huskies put the game out of reach in the late innings. After scratching across two runs in the seventh, St. Cloud State erupted for five runs in the eighth, capped by a grand slam to center field from Eric Bello, to finalize the 18-7 score.
