Jimmies see late lead slip away against UMary

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – The University of Jamestown baseball team erased an early five-run deficit and took a late lead, but ultimately fell 10-7 to the University of Mary in the first game of Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader at Jack Brown Stadium. UJ outhit the Marauders 14-6, but a late surge by the visitors sealed the result.

In game two, the Jimmies (12-29, 7-21 NSIC) were unable to keep pace with a potent UMary (27-15, 20-9 NSIC) offense that generated 15 runs on just nine hits, utilizing three home runs and capitalizing on seven walks.

Game One Summary
The Marauders struck first with a five-run second inning. Cru Walker reached on a fielder's choice coupled with a Jamestown throwing error, allowing two runs to score. Mikey Ramirez capped the frame with a two-run home run to right field, putting the Marauders up 5-0.

Jamestown answered with a massive five-run bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Ben Patton ignited the rally with a three-run home run to right-center, scoring Ben Swennumson and Trayson Kostial. Later in the inning, Mathieu Morin recorded an RBI groundout, and Jett Nelson followed with an RBI single to left-center to make it 5-5.

The Jimmies took a 7-5 lead in the fifth inning. Pinch-hitter Frankie Malagon delivered an RBI single through the right side to score Kostial. Morin later drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home pinch-runner Caleb Briggeman.

The Marauders cut the deficit to 7-6 in the sixth inning when Andrew Linn successfully stole home.

In the top of the seventh, the University of Mary reclaimed the lead with a four-run rally. Isaac Pegors hit a two-run single to left field to put the Marauders ahead 8-7. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Cullen Wilson and a passed ball allowed two more runs to cross the plate, finalizing the score at 10-7.

Jamestown loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but could not push a run across, leaving three men stranded to end the game.
