DAVENPORT, Fla. – The University of Jamestown baseball team concluded its Saturday doubleheader on a high note, defeating Concordia-St. Paul 5-4 under the lights at NE Regional Park to salvage a split.
The Jimmies (4-13, 1-5 NSIC) rode an early three-run first inning and a dominant 10-strikeout performance from starting pitcher
Isaac Hanson to secure the victory over the Golden Bears (6-8, 3-3 NSIC).
Game Two Summary
Jamestown wasted no time getting on the board, striking for three runs in the top of the first inning. Following a two-out walk to
Jacob Thomas,
Trayson Kostial drove an RBI double to center field to open the scoring. After
Mason Shea walked to keep the inning alive,
Jett Nelson delivered the biggest hit of the frame, lacing a two-run triple to right field to give the Jimmies a quick 3-0 advantage.
Concordia-St. Paul chipped away at the lead, scoring its first run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Eric Berg.
Jamestown answered back in the top of the fifth.
Grant Chapman drew a leadoff walk and after taking second base on a wild pitch, moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Mathieu Morin.
Adrian Warcken then stepped up and ripped an RBI single to right field, scoring Chapman to make it 4-1.
After the Golden Bears added a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the deficit to two, the Jimmies manufactured a crucial insurance run in the sixth. Shea was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Nelson, and moved to third on a single from
Ben Patton.
Melvin Maldonado then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field, bringing Shea home to push the lead to 5-2.
Concordia-St. Paul managed to score single runs in the seventh and ninth innings to pull within one. However, Patton took the mound in relief for the bottom of the ninth and successfully navigated around a pair of walks, inducing a game-ending groundout to secure the save.

Pitching Lines
Isaac Hanson started on the mound for UJ, racking up 10 strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings of work while allowing just two runs on four hits. The Jimmie bullpen saw action from

Grayson Sargent, and
Isaac Rodriguez before
Ben Patton sealed the 5-4 victory in the ninth to earn his first save of the year. Sargent (1-0) got the win after striking out the only two hitters he faced to finish the bottom of the eighth.
Jack Thompson (0-2) took the loss for Concordia-St. Paul, striking out nine batters over 5 2/3 innings but surrendering five runs. Daniel Musgjerd pitched 3 1/3 hitless innings of relief and struck out seven to keep the Golden Bears in the game.
Game One Summary
The Jimmies jumped out to a quick 1-0 advantage in the top of the first inning after
Adrian Warcken launched a solo home run to left field.
Concordia-St. Paul was held scoreless in the first but found its rhythm in the bottom of the second. The Golden Bears loaded the bases and cashed in with a bases-clearing, three-run double down the left-field line by Chase McQuade. Charlie Harms later drew a bases-loaded walk, giving CSP a 4-1 lead.
The Golden Bears extended their advantage with three more runs in the bottom of the third. McQuade delivered an RBI single, and Will Husemann followed with a sacrifice bunt attempt that saw two runs cross the plate following a throwing error.
In the bottom of the fourth, Concordia-St. Paul broke the game open with four more runs. Blake Eckmann drove a two-run single up the middle, and Husemann capped the inning with a two-run triple to right field, pushing the lead to 11-1.
Jamestown's offense showed life in the late innings. In the top of the sixth,
Trayson Kostial walked, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Jett Nelson, and scored when
Ben Patton ripped an RBI double down the left-field line.
The Jimmies mounted a final rally in the seventh inning. Pinch-hitter
Dallas Cummins led off the inning with a single up the middle and immediately scored on an RBI double to center field by Warcken. Kostial later brought Warcken home with a sacrifice fly to left field. Later in the inning, Nelson hit an RBI double to left-center to score
Mason Shea, cutting the deficit to 11-5 before the Golden Bears secured the final out.

The Jimmies conclude their Florida trip on Sunday with a single nine-inning non-conference game against the Golden Bears beginning at 2 p.m. Central.
